zlogo_okThis will be the last post of Z News for the foreseeable future.

Zgharta.com having come online in 1998 - before Wikipedia - MySpace - YouTube - Flickr - Facebook - Twitter - added in 2004 Z News to the site, which has now over 3000 posts.

We believe that ZNews helped bring the worldwide Zgharta Zawie community closer together especially those living overseas who did not read or write Arabic. They were able to share the news and know what was going on in their homeland community as if they live there.

Always independent ZNews champion causes, gave voice to those who did not have their own platform, and was never afraid to report uncomfortable truths or issues which would not otherwise be. Always giving the aggrieve the right of reply, but curiously never taken up.

We thank ZNews many behind the scenes helpers (who alerted, confirmed, verified and corrected), contributors and our English site editor who has edited ZNEWS since day one but who has expressed the wish to retire from the role.

Our Facebook and Twitter pages will shortly come offline to avoid unauthorised use.

Zgharta.com will remain online until further notice so providing continued access to Z Network and members email accounts.

crossWe sadly report the death of Laura Al Kareh who while driving along the Zgharta - Ehden highway, Sahel Jdedah, at 11.30 pm on Wednesday crashed into trees.

Her Facebook page, which contains tributes to her, says she was born on 14th September 1983 and that she worked for the Casino Du Liban as a dealer.

What is heartbreaking is that to become belatedly a Facebook friend of hers to enable condolences to be posted she needs to confirm.  We are sure there are many who wish to post but now cannot.

We send our condolences to her family.
